Over the weekend I hit 3K followers on Instagram! Now I know for some this isn’t a huge deal, but for me, THIS IS AMAZING. I grew my Instagram account by over 1.5K followers within three short months organically and authentically just by tweaking things… okay maybe tweaking a lot of things. But believe me, the changes I did to my Instagram weren’t hard at all. All it took was about 30 minutes a day to form a strategic plan.

Before I started my business, my Instagram account was obviously personal. And then, The Social Butterfly Gal happened. I was wrestling with the idea of creating two separate accounts but then turned the idea down when I realized all I had to do was learn how to balance. In April of 2016, I was averaging about 40-50 likes on my posts with very little engagement. As of July 2016, I average about 120-130, with one post hitting over 200+ likes and at least 25+ comments on each post! Phew, crazy right? So how did I do this? It’s called being strategic.

I always tell my clients to stay away, stay far away from buying followers. YES, you can buy followers, but why would you want to have an account that has spambots on it? Being strategic might take time and you might need to do some research, but it is worth it. There are sites like https://gainmorefollowers.com that review services that claim they can help grow your social media so if you do decide that you want help growing your media then make sure you look there first.

Here are three things I started doing that helped grow my Instagram Account.

Saving time on Social Media

Deleting content that didn’t fit my brand

As much as I loved some of the pictures I had, I had to delete a lot of content that wasn’t “ON BRAND”. Yes, you’ll see some personal pictures of Maddy Cat and Pete, etc., but images that looked awkward and didn’t fit, had to go. For example, some personal photos from the holidays, were the first to get cut. It was a bit rough but I knew those pictures really didn’t fit with the cohesive brand message I wanted to convey. When it comes to posting personal pictures, I try to post at least 1-2 that follow the guidelines of my overall brand.

Popping the color

One thing that was missing from my Instagram was figuring out my aesthetic. I had no consistency when it came to my posts. I started to do some research and followed accounts that had a great aesthetic for inspiration. I then discovered the app, A Color Story. This app is fantastic and features different filters to pop the color out on your post. Here’s an example of a picture I edited for my Instagram using the app.

This picture got over 128 Likes + 27 comments! All it took was about 3-5min of editing time!

Using Hashtags

Want to grow your Instagram too? Then use those hashtags. I use many hashtags that are related to my brand + related to my style. Using hashtags like #ThatsDarling; #ABMLifeIsColorful; #FlashesofDelight etc. have made a difference and by using those hashtags along with others, I’ve seen my Instagram engagement skyrocket!
